This course familiarizes participants with behavioral support strategies to be used
for children with autism spectrum disorders including high and low functioning autism,
Asperger
Syndrome, and Pervasive Developmental Disorder in an educational environment.
You will learn about each disorder and the behavioral characteristics of
autism. Understanding behaviors of autism will be applied within education
environments, and participants will be familiarized with behavioral interventions in the classroom.
Applied Behavioral Analysis, the Floor Time Model ® and special education
requirements will be presented. Suggestions for accommodation will be offered.
You will be provided with practical behavioral strategies and specialized, scaffolded instruction
in general education classrooms (elementary and secondary) designed for children with ranging
autism disorders.
Lastly, this course will present long-range behavioral strategies and supports.
